Food Security

Victory Garden

As a cornerstone to our mission we believe that mitigating isolation, building resilience and promoting independence by embracing community helps Veterans prevail against the challenges of PTSD, addiction and suicide. Additionally many Veterans face increasing food insecurity, especially in the current economy.  It is our intention to nurture a Veteran-centered community through building the garden, growing the garden, sharing meals from the produce and distributing the surplus to other area Veterans.

Food From the Field

In partnership with the Wyoming Hunger Initiative (WHI), The Soldier's House is a distribution center of game meat to Fremont County Veterans free of charge. The program aligns recipients through distribution centers to wild game meat donations made by hunters and then processed by participating meat processors in Wyoming, all made possible through the efforts of WHI.  https://www.nohungerwyo.org/field

Food from the Farm + Ranch

The Wyoming Hunger Initiative has partnered with Farms (Grow a Little Extra garden produce) and Ranches in the distribution of surplus produce and protein. The Soldier's House joins the team as a point of distribution of vegetables for Veterans in Fremont County.  https://www.nohungerwyo.org/farm-ranch

Thanksgiving 2022, 140 meals served

Community Meals

Shared meals are community building. The Soldier's House has been a gathering place for Veterans and loved ones to relax, enjoy a simple meal and engage in conversation. Although the pandemic made these gatherings difficult, we were able to continue our Thanksgiving Dinner tradition and we hope to bring back other gatherings soon in partnership with the Wyoming Hunger Initiative and Victory Garden grown produce.  Check our calendar for more details.
